Stroller Fitness

So I took the girls with me to the gym the other day to try this new class I heard of from a friend. It's called stroller fitness, yes it is exactly what it sounds like. I was very impressed because I have a fairly high fitness level and I loved the class, it was challenging and fun. I don't have a jogging stroller but it worked well anyway. You start off walking around the open gym floor area to get warmed up, then the pace quickens and then you get into a full blown run for your life type deal, which the babies thought was hilarious. Then you stop and do different types of lunges or cardio. Then you run some more. I poured sweat which is awesome! After the running is done, its on to circuits. The circuits range from high knee runs to TRX. It's pretty awesome. I think I may make a habit of going to it.

The sick twin and the healthy twin

I think my girls are at the point in life where they are entering the beginning stages of teething. Well the other day, both girls had a fever of 99.5 and both were very grumpy. They are very in sync in case you haven't noticed. They even poop at the same time, yeah I know too much info, right? Madelyn, the older by one minute twin, has been running a fever of 102.9 ever since last night. I called the doctor on call and explained the situation and she didn't feel that I needed to bring her in right away because they both have a 6 month check up on Thursday. She told me things to watch for and to just monitor the fever. Madee has been congested just a bit, so I'm thinking she may be fighting a cold. Well Anna has just never felt better. She has been in a chipper mood today, while Madee has been a royal grumpy bear. When Madee whines and cries, Anna thinks she has to make noise too, but it's funny noises like a constant uhhhhhhhhhhhh.... So it's quite comical. Madee has been sitting in her chair next to Anna and it seems that Anna is okay with Mommy giving her sister a little bit of extra attention. It isn't as bad as one might think, having one sick baby and one healthy baby. I guess I should feel fairly lucky that Anna is being so great for the whole situation. Madee has been napping more frequently today so I have been able to give Anna some motherly affection also!

"Must Haves" other than the obvious

When my girls were newborn, they came home from the NICU at 6 weeks old. I used a boppy pillow so that I could feed them simultaneously. They both fit in it perfectly! It was much easier to just feed them myself rather than spend a half hour trying to wake my husband up to help. The feedings went by quickly because at that point they were only taking about 2 oz of formula. They would immediately go back to sleep which was a blessing. I also had small bassinets as well. Of course they will have cribs, but in the first months of their lives, you will want them in e
very room with you. The bassinets stayed right by my bed at night so that I could hear them breathing and I was right there if they began to cry. On some nights I slept on the couch and carried the bassinets out to the living room with me. If I was washing dishes I had them in the kitchen with me when I was home alone. Sounds kind of paranoid but you just have to be when dealing with preemies. It worked out well.
When they get bigger and are able to hold their heads up, I swear by Bumbo chairs. Of course.... Use common sense and please don't place it on high surfaces. I always have the girls sitting on the living room carpet in them and they love it. My girls have an issue with flat spots on their heads, so I try to refrain from keeping them on their back for extended periods of time. The Bumbo chair lets them see whats going on around them and I face them towards each other and they like to kick each other's feet. I give them these books that are made of cloth but when they squeeze them it makes a paper rattling sound and they just love those. I know a lot pf people are probably against pacifiers BUT with twins I have found them to be great. If you are home alone like I am mostly (military husband), you are trying to make two bottles at the same time and for the most part it's hectic with them both screaming at the same time, so I have found that pacifiers help aid with calming them down while you are making their bottles. I also suggest having about 3 bottles at least per baby. You will begin to feel like all you do is wash bottles and feed babies, but it's so fun!

Nonsense!

It's things like this that make me livid!!! This is so far from true it's not even funny! When you have twins sometimes you just have to scoop up your balls and do what you have to do. If I feel like going to the mall, darn it, we are all going to the mall and we are going to have a fun time! Yeah yeah the whole "I'm tired" complaint is a real killer. Well do you think that sitting around on your rear complaining about it is going to make it go away? Yeah I was tired as all get out at first when the babies wanted to get up and eat every three hours at night, but I just kept on trucking and started moving, with the help of coffee, and once you start moving you feel so much better! Getting out is so much better that staying inside, really, happy Mommy, happy babies, and in turn happy Daddy because Mommy isn't being a raving lunatic from the effects of cabin fever. So if an average Jane like me can manage... ANYONE can! So go do it!!!!!!!

The Pool

So I took my 6 month old twin girls to the pool the other day, and was blown away at all the comments from other people. It's funny how most people can't believe I venture out alone with twin infants and an 8 year old. It's really not that hard, yes diaper change time can be time consuming but that's about it. As long as you have the technique down to feeding them simultaneously then you are in the clear! It's a cake walk! They can get angry and scream at the same time but it's really not that big a deal.
Another thing that floors me when I take them to the pool is the fact that most women cannot fathom the fact that it IS indeed possible to have tight abs after carrying twins. I get the age old question every time I venture out in a bikini.. "Are those babies yours?" I say "why, yes, yes they are". I love giving women advice and things about healthy eating and exercise while pregnant. A good many are actually clueless sometimes when it comes down to proper exercise during a pregnancy. Some think it's full throttle or nothing at all. NO there are modifications to literally every exercise I can think of! You just gotta ask the doctor and do the right research!
